Hepatitis A & B
TWINRIX
Twinrix is a safe and effective combination vaccine used to prevent both Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B virus infections. It works by inducing antibody formation to protect the liver from acute and chronic infections.
Benefits of TWINRIX
This vaccine helps prevent acute liver infection caused by Hepatitis A virus, which is transmitted through contaminated food or water (fecal–oral route), and chronic liver damage caused by Hepatitis B virus, which is transmitted through body fluids, sexual contact, or shared needles (including tattoo needles).
The incubation period of Hepatitis A is approximately 28 days. Symptoms may include fever, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pain, jaundice (yellowing of the skin), and dark-colored urine.
In children under 6 years of age, infection is often asymptomatic. However, 10–15% of children may experience prolonged symptoms lasting up to 6 months.
Hepatitis B infection may present with decreased appetite, fever, nausea, vomiting, jaundice affecting the skin and eyes (sclera), dark urine, and abdominal pain.
Approximately 90% of children under 6 years infected with Hepatitis A show no symptoms, despite experiencing acute liver damage. Each year, Hepatitis A accounts for significant mortality in adults, particularly in the elderly (>65 years).
Chronic Hepatitis B infection can lead to chronic liver disease, liver cirrhosis, and liver cancer.
