Herpes Zoster
SHINGRIX
Shingrix is a non-live recombinant vaccine that is highly effective (up to 97%) in preventing Herpes Zoster (shingles) and its complications, such as chronic nerve pain (Post-Herpetic Neuralgia/PHN).
Benefits of SHINGRIX
This vaccine helps prevent Herpes Zoster (shingles), which is caused by reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus, the same virus responsible for chickenpox.
After recovery from chickenpox, the varicella-zoster virus remains dormant (inactive) in the body, hiding within the nervous system. When immune function declines, the virus may reactivate and cause shingles.
The vaccine also helps prevent Post-Herpetic Neuralgia (PHN), a condition characterized by severe, persistent nerve pain at the site of healed shingles lesions that can last for years.
In addition, it reduces the risk of serious complications such as vision loss, pneumonia, hearing impairment (Ramsay Hunt syndrome), encephalitis, and even death.
