PREVENAR

Pneumonia is an inflammatory condition that occurs when someone experiences an infection in the air sacs of the lungs. These infected air sacs become filled with fluid or pus (purulent sputum). This disorder can cause productive or purulent coughing, fever, chills, and breathing difficulty. Pneumonia infections can occur in one or both sides of the lungs. The main causes of this inflammatory disorder are viral, bacterial, or fungal infections.

PREVENAR Vaccination Schedule
PREVENAR Vaccination schedule for children according to Indonesian Pediatric Society recommendations
• Administered routinely to children ages 2, 4, and 6 months with a booster at ages 12-15 months.
PREVENAR Vaccination schedule for adults
• Administered as a single dose for a lifetime.
• If already vaccinated with PCV13, PPSV23 vaccination can be given with an 8-week interval.
• If already vaccinated with PPSV23, PCV13 vaccination can be given with a 1-year interval.
PREVENAR Vaccination schedule for elderly
• Administered as a single dose for a lifetime.
• If already vaccinated with PCV13, PPSV23 vaccination can be given with an 8-week interval.
• If already vaccinated with PPSV23, PCV13 vaccination can be given with a 1-year interval.

Composition of PREVENAR Vaccine
Each dose (0.5 ml) contains:
• 2.2 mcg of saccharide for serotypes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, 23F
• 4.4 mcg of saccharide for serotype 6B
• Conjugated CRM197 carrier protein
• Aluminum phosphate

Side effects of PREVENAR Vaccine
Fever, irritability, decreased appetite, muscle aches, pain, and swelling at the injection site.

Contraindication of PREVENAR Vaccine
• Hypersensitivity to any of the components of the vaccine.
• History of severe allergy to previous Pneumonia and Diphtheria Toxoid vaccines.

Special Attention to PREVENAR Vaccine
• If not given yet to children aged 7-12 months, administer PCV13 twice with a 1-month interval, and a booster after 12 months of age with a 2-month interval from the previous dose.
• If not given yet to children aged 1-2 years, administer PCV13 twice with a minimum 2-month interval.
• If not given yet to children aged 2-5 years, administer PCV13 once.
